I have just read your article “Bloodshed in his name.”
It was in 1982 during the falklands war between Britain and Argentina that i first began to question the morality of going to war.
Still being on the army reserve list i was eligible to be called up for military service, but i began thinking, if i killed someone in an act of war, that person could be someones son or daughter, husband or wife, father or mother, what ever the case it would cause whole families a great deal of heart ache, and as a father myself i thought of all the time and effort my wife and i had invested in our son, but that could all be wiped out in an instant by an act of war.
I asked myself, ‘Is that why we raise children just so they can kill each other on the battle field ?’.
There had to be a better alternative.
I am pleased to say i was right, there is a better alternative, and it’s not a new idea, but is found in a book first writen thousands of years ago that spoke of a time when we will beat our swords into plowshares, and learn war no more, because God will make wars to cease to the ends of the earth, where we will learn to love our enemies, and each other, instead of having love for our respective nations. -Isa.2:4; Psalm 46:9; Matt.5:43,44; John 13:35.
It also tells us that as true Christians we are no part of the world because our King is no part of the world, and niether is his kingdom, -John 17:16; 18:36. So as such we don’t get involved in the conflicts of the world.
But have you ever thought that if the world wants peace so badly, why do we keep having wars?
Is there some invisible force behind this driving nations to wage war against each other ?

Jack, do you mean to say the British, Canadians, Americans, Aussies, etc., who gave their lives fighting the Nazi hordes from taking over the world, were wrong? If they had done what you suggest, we’d all be speaking German now – or perhaps Russian. Was God wrong in the way He so obviously helped Israel defeat those who would destroy that small nation in 1967, which cost both countries many lives? If a man breaks into your home and is about to rape your wife or kill your children, would you let him do it for fear that if you try to stop him your might end up “shedding his blood”? A cop walks down the street and sees a man pulling the trigger of a gun, about to murder you in a robbery attempt – should he pull his gun and shoot your would-be killer? Or should he leave his gun in his holster and watch him kill you. Or should we Christians simply do nothing and let the non-Christians fight our battles for us, so they have blood on their hands instead of us. “Thou shalt not kill” is not necessarily the same as “Thou shalt not murder.”

Yes, I am a born again Christian and , I thought, I was a Republican that was going to get out and fight for my rights and the Constitution.

Other believers would ask me “how are our Catholic Brothers and Sisters, doing in Italy?” Before we can call each other “Brothers and Sisters”, we have to make sure that we have the same “Heavenly Father”, which can only happen if we received Jesus Christ His Begotten Son, as our Savior and Lord! We are not all children of God, but all “creature of God”!
